So a friend sent me this link:

And I thought to my self:

1) full blow sport bike - check
2) full on gear - check
3) Stock peg feelers - check
4) Not knowing that the pegs fold and there is nothing to be scared about - unchecked!

His body position sucks. And he seems to have frightened himself with the peg scrape. Target fixation followed shortly there after. At least he crashed at a slow speed.

The peg caused his back tire to skip out a bit, which is what upset the bike. You have to watch the slow motion part to see it, but you can clearly see the bars turn to the right in response.

He would've been OK, but then he target fixated on the dirt.

Bummer.

And he cracked the case.....ouch!  :o

the domed/pointed design of that side case just seems like a bad design to begin with. in a get-off, that thing will logically grind down if it's making contact...
such a nice bike, poor guy.

Never been there, but I'm starting to recognize that corner as if it was one of the roads local to me.

VisceralReaction

I think it went down because he was braking as he hit the dirt and you can see the tire wash out.

that was easily recoverable if you were use to dragging your pegs or if you just knew how to respond to the bike.

the rear started to go and he picked it up, but you could of defintely threw it back into the turn to finish it off, but instead he fixated on dirt rode on it and grabbed a fist full of front brake while riding on dirt.

Dont those bikes have a little nub on the peg meant for grinding? And he should be hanging off more to avoid scrapping.

Privateer

he was screwed before the peg touched down.

His line was terrible, like he was trying to double apex the turn or something.

I've only ridden through there twice, and after the first time we got to the top and I said to my buddy "that's it?
My fast lap is your sighting lap.

It was "easily recoverable"?  Really?  I guarantee that the vast majority of the self-professed experienced riders around here woulda found themselves in the same situation.  Anyone see Pedrosa get cut off by Simoncelli in the last GP race.  I suppose all of you--in the same situation--wouldn't have stood the bike up either, but instead would have just leaned more.   [roll]

maybe my statement came off the wrong way, but i meant it was an easy recovery to just stand the bike up and run off. The reason he crashed wasnt because of dragging the peg, but because he target fixatated and made a noob mistake of slamming the front brake on dirt.  Ive done  that exact same thing on my first crash, and ive dragged my pegs and ran off a couple times as well. The last crash i was dragging my kickstand with the rear wheel in the air and I low sided the bike as it spun around a few times.
