Rear cylinder coil relocation with PCV tank?

Where are you guys putting your coil for the rear cylinder with the PCV system still installed on the bike??  Not a fan of the K&N on the outlet for multiple reasons...performance/noise/etc.

Suggestions/pics?

well, a little more info
bike, application
coil?
outlet K&N?

I would have to agree with Raux.  Not quite getting what it is that you are asking for.  PCV system still installed on the bike?  Why would you want to take it off?  What is an outlet K&N?

Bike is a 1000DS.  There's a coil that's located under the left side plastic "beauty" cover below the seat.  I want to get rid of said plastic covers, but that'll leave the coil exposed.

So, I need to relocate the coil - under the seat is the most obvious choice for coil location.  However, I still have the stock PCV system and intend to keep it.  I'm looking for pictures/info on where people relocate this coil (for the rear cylinder) on bikes that still have the PCV system.

Raux

ahhh more detail...

the guys that mod that area have multiple photos. search in the mod area for underseat coils

As far as getting rid of the stock crankcase breather system, there is no perceptible difference in performance nor noise.  I just changed mine out with the TPO kit.  Removing the box opens up the rear shock area for an aluminum plate on which you can mount your coil.

Then you could also mount your Power Commander on that same plate.  As a matter of fact do a search for Power Commander or PC.  I'm pretty sure that I remember threads and pictures showing the Power Commander, rectifier, and coil mounted onto that same plate.

Did a search for "relocate coil" and here are just a few threads I found with pictures of what I think you are looking for:

Yes, those have pictures of the coil being relocated, however none of them keep the stock PCV system.  I'm not interested in removing mine.

Sure, it opens up room.  Performance wise however, removing the PCV system is not in your best interest.  Am I obsessing over details that really don't matter on a street bike??  Yes, likely.  However, experience and calculations don't lie - removing the PCV system and using a simple K&N does infact result in louder noise (you can hear the reed valve open and close...been there, done that on another monster), and it also results in poor crankcase evacuation.  Do research and run some CFD...it doesn't lie.

Sure, I'll accept the crank case pressure, and power argument...but...

Your worrying about noise a reed valve would make on a air cooled Ducati...?

A custom oil catch to free up room under the seat to mount the coil...

or

Remove the oil catch, pipe straight to the airbox, and put a K&N in the airbox in an attempt to reduce the amount of oil misting in the airbox to free up room under the seat to mount the coil...

Raux

that's exactly how the new motors do it.

they have a tube going from the Vent to the airbox. there's some sort of box inside the airbox to separate the oil from the air.

the old TT bikes had a long hose that went back to a similar box that sat in the tail. it basically was a 2 chamber square box with an inlet/drain on one side and a outlet on the other.

all the old boxes though do not have a pressure or negative pressure type system.
the new systems could actually suck air from the tube theoretically.

try to find a pic of the old TT systems... i think that might solve your problem and keep the setup you want.

It is entirely possible that on my old 620 the reed valve was busted.  However, it was incredibly loud (did have stock pipes though too)...it's also possible there was a ton of blow by, but each cylinder had good compression and it didn't change wet...IDK...maybe it was just one of those things I tuned into and bothered the hell out of me.

Removing the catch can is something I'll look into...likely the route I'll go.  My main concern in doing that was as you stated - oil misting onto the filter or collecting and running down into the manifold.  A K&N may work though...we'll see what I come up with.

Raux...I'll look into the new bikes and old TT bikes as well...

Thanks for the replies [thumbsup]
