moving oil pressure and temp sensor.

im looking at the possibility of moving my oil pressure and temp sensors on my m800. the way im thinkin is with a ported fitting on the back of the cooler much like i have done on my car. im sure this will be fine for the temp sensor as while it may show a slightly lower reading, temps are relative and measuring what is going into the cooler is just as good to me as the crank case oil temp. but what about the pressure sensor?

in my car i have a 100% bypass oil cooler, so all the oil from the pump goes through the cooler before the block, yet looking at the monster it appears its only a sample of the oil passing through the cooler. is this going to have it show a significantly different oil pressure at the back of the cooler compared to the std location?

looking around i see kopf's bike has no oil temp or pressure sensors in the std locations. is he running without or moved them?

IMO, the best place for an oil pressure sensor is close to the pump just like the factory has it.  Your idea sounds like it would work though.  As to the oil pressure being lower at the return from the cooler, maybe, but that will simply become you new normal.  Expect it to take another nano sec or two for the oil light to go out.

As to kopf's bike, if you PM him I'm sure he will answer your questions.

The question I'd ask is "why are you moving your oil pressure sensor"?

If it's because you've got a bulky electric one and it'll look like crap hooked into the stock location, you can just run an oil line from the stock location to a sensor hidden under the tank. Did that on my bike and it works great.

Bike off shows 0 PSI. Bike revving under load with warmish oil shows 100 + PSI. Once when it was hot (290) and idling the idiot light came on. I say "idiot light " because some fool had set the light to go off at 30 PSI (i.e. I did)

Pressure measurement at one end of a 12 inch braided steel oil line is going to be damn close to the reading at the other end.

Small male-male brass adapter to convert from the pressure sensor thread to AN-6 (or was it AN-8?) and similar male-female adapter deal on the other end to connect the sensor.

IIRC I've got a -4 adapter that I use with short hose and gauge to check oil pressure.

the reason is aesthetic. i want to tidy up that area to nothing but case and oil cooler lines. and if i build some cooler lines i may as well put the sensors onto the cooler end of the lines.

while the remote sensor on a line is an improvement id rather blank off the hole and have the sensor elsewhere.
