What are the hoses and the plastic thing that the red arrows are pointing at? Can those hoses be removed/rerouted elsewhere? Does anyone remove the plastic thing? Does it have a purpose?

The run to the carbs. The plastic thing is there to shelter them from turbulence and let them intake cool air.

I'm sure folks have removed those little pods and re routed the hoses - but I've got not FHE
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

They provide a 'still' air pressure signal for the CV carburetors.

Hoses can be re-routed, but must end out of the airstream.

After you've relocated the hoses and confirmed that the bike runs good on the freeway and such...remove the plastic pods.
