Removing idle stepper motor...

Looks like I can leave the cross bar in my 999 framed/ds1100 motor project IF I take the stepper motor out of the TB's.

I vaguely recall someone doing this on a S4R before, but don't remember any details.  I guess I'm looking for what throttle assembly/tube they used, and what bike they sourced the fast idle lever/assembly from.

You can use the throttle grip assembly from the SBK's, that has the high-idle 'button'.

Fast idle lever was on the left hand switch assembly from '02 onward until (AFAIK) all the models were running closed loop and thus had the stepper motor.
But you won't have the hardware on the throttle bodies to accept the cable...

I got one of those throttle assemblies with the fast idle button.  Some, but not all of the 748-998 series SBKs had them, but as I said, not all.

I ended up downloading all the parts manuals for the aforementioned SBKs to see which had them, but...I deleted all the info.  Even within a given displacement range, it wasn't a sure shot as if I remember correctly, the Rs didn't have it.

I ended up getting the part from http://www.woundedduc.net/996-2001.html for $25.

I only needed the 1 piece, so I sold the rest off just to break even.

I used an old-skool ignition advance lever mounted to the frame.

I tried just using a SBK fast idle grip assembly, but it doesn't play nice with the Rizoma throttle tube  [bang]

but if you remove the motor, will the ecu throw a code?

Probably.  :-\

I wonder if you can't fool it somehow (short of disconnecting the motor from the cable and leaving the motor plugged in)

Sounds like a job for a duc.ee type device (although just maybe you could do it with a resistor). Which in turn seems like a lot of work just to remove the stepper motor.

I want to ditch it cause I won't need to cut out the cross brace in the frame :).

I think for the intended purpose, I can babysit the warmup if I can't find the throttle assembly with the fast idle button.

Stupid frame bracing is in the way....and I can't really see how I could add a cross brace back in that would be beneficial.

Raux

can it be moved and actuated with a cable?

And you get cruise control at the same time!!!   [laugh]

Just move the stepper motor to a better position and use longer hoses to the TB ?!
