696.....from an S2R1000 rider! lol i think a modded 696 looks WAY better than a modded S2R1000, but bone stock the S2R1k is more raw looking...

696 will in all likelyness run a lot better, not need to have the belts changed (because face it the S2R1k has been sitting and doing nothing for several years, it will need a full check up for its rubber components)

Id trade my S2R1k for a M1100 anyday....i just like hte extra power over the 696

I'd like to know how and where you found a brand new 2008 S2R1000?  He Man has good points about the rubber.  Bike has been sitting for a long time.
Ahh... but the servant waits, while the master baits.

I do 40% city commute, 40% weekend twisty, and 10% touring roads. Please help me decide. Pros/cons....

2008 S2R 1k :
I love the classic look, more power (but dont really need it cause i dont do track or ride fast anymore), and dry clutch sound.

2011 696 :
like the low seat (i'm 5'-6"), 355 dry weight, slipper clutch.

Personally I'd get the 2011 696 and I'd get it with ABS.  It has more commuting-friendly ergos (less reach to the bars, low seat), I like the clutch & low weight for city maneuvers, and I really like the ABS.  Shit happens, especially when commuting, and I'd rather have ABS when it does.  And for the 40% of your riding that's twisties, the 696 is certainly not a granny mobile.  I do love the look of the classic monsters, but I don't hate the current gen.

Just my $0.02

It was great meeting "The Dude" at long last.   She brought us some epic beer.

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it
