I really wanted a high wheel bicycle (aka penny farthing) but they are asking for $600 just for the front wheel.
http://www.hiwheel.com/parts/index.htm    .. I wanted to make one myself but this really discouraged me.  Any tips, tricks, or anything else  would be welcome.  THere must be somebody out there who made one of these at home.

I guess this is how they changed the tires on these things.  I found it to be pretty cool.

This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

Very neat.  My hometown Schwinn store owner has a bunch of original high wheel bikes that get ridden every year in the 4th of July parade.

i knew a bike courier in DC who did deliveries on one of these:

Always seemed to me like a great way to make a hard job even harder, but he seemed to like the attention it garnered.

While it's not a true Penny Farthing, it would be fun to ride in the Fourth of July Parade...

Just doesn't do it for me like the farthing... I like the part of the "frame" that connects to the upper fork to be closer to and follow the shape of the tire.  Mitt you have a cool hometown!  I never said it was easy to ride, lol.  Anyways I didn't intend on using it for transportation or for long distances.  You would definitely have to plan your route!!

These guys are racing them, haha

That was pretty damned neat! I do however prefer changing modern tires, I have done hundred from working in motorbike shops.
