Throttle problem

I just bought an 07 monster S4r. I've been riding it for about a month until my accident. I was riding one day, upon accelerating and decelerating for an overtake, the throttle  somehow never closed. It continued to accelerate on its own. I had to drop the bike to stop it from accelerating further. Now the bike is damaged. I attempted to start the bike a few times after the accident and as soon as it starts the rpm shoots up to 6,000 by itself and goes up to almost 8,000. I checked throttle control and throttle body connection and it was okay. The problem is the rpm never goes down, it just stays at 6,000 upward. Has  anybody had this problem ? Any insights ?  [bang]

Instead of purposely crashing, why didn't you pull in the clutch and then hit the kill switch?

No time to think, cliff was fast approaching, bike accelerating too fast....issue is: Why did throttle get stuck ??? What could have caused it ?   [bang]

Have you checked that it isn't binding against the bar end? I had that happen to me.

Try lifting the tank.  Trace the throttle cable back to the EFI.  Rotate the throttle and become familar with the mechanism.  Then look to see if the twist grip is free to rotate.  Check for kinks in the cable.  If you find nothing this way you can disconnect the cables from the EFI and see if there is still resistance in the throttle.  If there is none you know it is internal in the fuel injection system on the engine.

I have assumed here that the throttle does not return when released.

Twist grip is okay. It's not binding against the bar end. Yes, throttle control does rotate. It can be twisted to open and released to close. I never tried lifting the tank, but at right side you see the throttle cable, and the linkage. The linkage disc does rotate when the throttle control is twisted and released. You cannot see anything stuck from this point of view. I  never tried twisting the grip with the engine running. Don't know what it might do to the idle, it might go up to 9,000 rpm.  I  don't want touch, open up or unscrew anything yet. I'm still waiting for the Duc mechanic..... Thanks for the insights !!!

Scary, I've had the throttle stick open on an old CB550.  If it happened on my 135hp S4RS, depending on the gear I was in, things could get ugly fast.
