Is the distance from the end face of the gear box countershaft to the groove for the sprocket retaining washer ( the splined thingie locating the sprocket on the shaft with the two small screws )  the same on many or all Monsters, or other types of Duc ??

OK, I know that my 2000 m900ie has the funny front sprocket with the offset, but suspect the positioning of the countershaft groove may be pretty constant.

i believe the 748, maybe 916 is 5mm longer, but the groove is the same distance from the end of the shaft.  actually, that may be why the ie has the offset, because it runs a 748 gearbox with a 5mm longer shaft.  how's that for a deduction.  there's no reason for it apart from that, as the chassis is the same as the 99 carb.

why do you want to know?

There's been a few DMF posts about sprockets wandering along the shaft because the splined retainer has failed, got me thinking maybe there's a Better Way............

Of course the simplest way is to replace the damm thing whenever the sprocket is changed - do you stock them ?
