So this is why you torque the rear adjusters on a DSS. My left side bolt backed out enough for the
rear plate to rotate. It got caught in the spocket, mangled the the adjusting bolt and the end of my swingarm.
I cut the head of the bolt off, removed the back plate, and backed the bolt it out all the way.
Chain tension and rear wheel alignment still good, axle bolt still torqued correctly.
So I'm still riding.

What is the little threaded bolt in the end of the adjuster bolt? I probably twisted it off when removing the remains of the adjuster. Seems like it might be a retainer or something?

Is this a tough bolt to source? about to commence my search.

yeah if the hardware store fails me there's enough left to have the trim the bend off the bolt  and the head welded on. I've even found the Fastenal here to be lacking the bolts I'm looking for, always metric odd-balls.

Yup. This has happened to me. Loctite is your friend. :P

I don't recall how expensive the correct bolt with the threaded retainer is. First time this happened I bought the correct bolt, second time I just went to the hardware store and got a regular one that would work.

(Yes, it happened twice. Yes, I'm a slow learner.)

If you're looking at replacing your swingarm, I have an extra 04 620 swingarm in my garage.  It's in decent shape, and I'll give you a good deal on it.  The adjusters won't be included, but at least you could clean up the rear of your bike.  PM me if you're interested.

csorin thanks I'll keep you in mind. It's not chewed up too bad. My bike is a little past
the garage-queen look, probably getting hailed on this moment in the parking lot at work.

I've read about it. Now I've seen it. If you need a reason to carry a hammer, this is it.

if you have a wee bit o jingle-jangle, i've got a set of billet axle-adjuster blocks for the large axle Monsters, new / never-installed, i'd sell you. Normally cost over $100, i'd settle for just over half that.

I'm not talking about the outer axle adjuster plates that the nuts tighten against, I'm talking about the internal block (this one is billet instead of cast), long bolt (these have stainless bolts) and rear plate (also billet).
