Sportclassic GT 1000...

Anyone have one of these?  How do they ride?  How does hp/performance vary from the Monster?  They've caught my eye recently and was wondering about swapping the Monster for a used one, or just picking up one as a second ride (that is if the difference in the two would really justify owning both).  I'd love to ride one, but that's obviously months away from being a possibility.  I love my 696, but have begun to want more.  Any thoughts?

They sport a wet clutch version of the engine that powered the S2R1000.

People like 'em, but they don't perform quite as well as something like the S2R1000. The spoke wheels are a good bit heavier and the Sport Classics got stuck with lesser brakes seen on the S2R800, 695 and later 620 as well as similar tier of suspension to those bikes.

So sharp looks and probably hover some place between the S2R800 and S2R1000 in the hand-wave spectrum rating scale.

I don't have one, but have ridden it.

The riding position and comfort approaches that of my Guzzi B11 (which is a VERY comfortable naked/sport-tourer).

The GT1000 feels bigger and a little more powerful than the 696, but it's not a HUGE difference to me.

I could see having a GT1000 for longer rides and sport touring duty, and keeping the 696 for around town twisties...

It's been mentioned before (by me...) but the suspension is where they cut corners at the factory. Neat, semi-retro bike but the boingers are less than satisfactory. I believe the forks offer zero adjustment other than swapping for better springs and oil and my friend that had one says the shocks make great paper weights. I like their looks for the most part but the thing that has always bothered me is the three feet of clearance between the rear tire and fender. What's up with that?

I owned a 2008 GT 1000.  I really enjoyed the bike and only recently traded it on a 2012 Monster 1100 Evo.  The GT was very comfortable and would accommodate two-up just fine.  I spent many 400 mile days in the saddle with little complaint.  I even adapted it for travel with some throw-over bags and a cheap windscreen.  In 5000+ miles I never had any problems.  It handled reasonably well, though the Monster is more nimble.  It was a fun bike and got plenty thumbs up due to its classic and unique looks.

One of my best friends has one and he's modded his quite a bit by putting Marchesini mags off a Multistrada on it along with Multi calipers and Termignoni exhaust.  He bought his new in 2008 and still has it.  I've only ridden it once, the day he brought it home from the dealer and it impressed me enough that I started looking at the Ducati as a possible next bike many years ago, found the Monster and never looked back.  It's definitely a cool bike and light enough to be fun yet still comfortable.  If I were to have another bike, keeping the Monster 1100 EVO of course, I'd probably give the nod to the Multistrada.
