I know most of you have short term and long term disability via employer.  Some do not, I suggest you get it.  Regular short term is usually funded by your company but long term you buy into at various amounts.  You should also consider adding a personal disability policy through carriers like Union Central (Ameritas), GE, UNUM and many others (sometimes your car insurance provider has them too).  I say all this because although most of us have savings all it takes is one time, one event for the house to crumble.  This way you can keep paying your bills while having income coming in, usually at 90% of what you make.  Don't overlook something so cheap because remember the most expensive insurance in NONE AT ALL.

Just got me thinking after so many people getting hurt on the bike is all.

Well said. Definitely something for everyone to consider.

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

I know it's a pain in the ass to "pay" for it because most of us don't think we need it.  Statistically you have a better than 70% chance of needing something so buy it now before you have an event that raises your premiums.  I pay $135/quarter for 100% coverage (supplemental through Union Central that covers the remaining 30% of my earned income).  Worth every penny IMO
