So I have 3 bikes to choose from

Local duc dealer has a mint 09 monster 1100, 6-700 mi, $9200, buddy is sales mgr, I excpect $8700, all stock

4 hrs away, '09 1100 w nice mods, rizoma bars/risers/mirrors, slip on Termi's , Rizoma clutch over and Star press. Plate, 6000mi, $8200

1100 mi away, 1100s w fmf exhaust 6000mi $9000

Me: been riding 10yrs , last bike '08 busa, former MSF inst. , done plenty of track days, will be a commuter and a sprinkle of weekend rides, 2 lil kids so no time

if all is in good condition, I'd go with the one set up with Termi's. It sounds like a good deal to me.

I would go with the 600-700 mile 09.  I personally would choose a stock bike over one that is modded, its a clean slate for you create the bike of your dreams.

The reality stat termi bike has pretty much everything I would be doing  anyways

I mean exhaust clutch over mirrors, what else

thought

getting ohlins forks/shock for a m1100 would cost more than the 800 price diff btwn the 2nd option and then m1100s.

also, is that 8700 including tax for the first option?  gotta factor that in too.

i say try to bargain down the m1100s since it's all about the same ballpark range of prices and might as well go for the highest end one at that point.

Take it from someone that has been down the standard or "S" road.  I went with the standard and then coughed up the cash to get an Ohlins shock.  The forks on the M1100 can be dealt with but I'd never have a M1100 with the Sachs shock again.

Of all the changes I've made to my 1100 the Ohlins shock ranks #2.  OZ Racing wheels would be #1
Current: '14 M1200S; '09 BMW R1200GSA; '06 Harley Roadking; '02 Suzuki SV650N; all the others sold

ROAD TRIP!!!

are the wheels any diff on the S vs non?

just suspension, C/F bits right?

Racer X

well after talking w/ my local Duc shops both agreed that the S in CHi is going to need a major service after i ride it home, to the tune of $1000-1200, valves and belts. So its no longer really a value

so the search continues.  :(

thought

have you tried to bargain down the 1100s owner?  if he's at all knowledgeable he'll know that that service is coming up and should be factored into the price... unless it already is at which point, yeah, time to find another one :\

Do you guys think the belts need replacing after such a short time? Or need valve adj?

This bike is on chicago, so it's parked 3-4 mos of the year

Talked w dan kyle, prob the us's premier ohlins shop, rear ohlins new $550, revalving the ft $610 for ' your' weight, maybe get the no mileage plain one and fix it up

6k ain't shit. Get the S as low as you can and never look back. Ditch that slip on and start over with mods that make it yours.
