This bike has been on CL for a few weeks now and its pretty much exactly what im looking for.

Your input?
if service records have been kept?
If they have not, would it still be a good buy?

It looks clean from the pictures. Since he doesn't mention it, ask him if he had the valves checked at 18K.

yup. and when were the belts last replaced?  i like to see service receipts and not take people's word for it.  i was looking at an 848 once that the owner did "all the work" himself.  i asked him to see the valve clearances from the adjustment at 7500 miles and it turns out that "all the work" meant oil changes at random intervals.  but, that is one hell of a deal if the bike is clean and checks out for service.  i'd grab it.

KBB doesn't mean a whole lot in the motorcycle world. some bikes that have high KBB sell low and vice versa.

I would check around for a service history and without offering anything ask him how flexible he is on the price. if he has room to move get a pre purchase inspection and see what the shop says about it.

the bike does look really clean for 18k though.

Ah, you crazy Americans!! Don't you just have it sooo good...?  Grin

Here's an example of a 2000 M 900 here in Australia. How's $10,500 sound? And that's at 1.04 Aussie cent's to the good ol' US$, making it just under $11,000 US.

Ask questions and check it out - but looks good so far. CL photos are no substitute for in person inpections but it's looking good so far.

And yes, ask for info on work done.
- I do much/all my own work and keep notes and receipts from it all. I've got a google doc that covers all of what's been done by me or a shop.

I would want more and better photo's....but it doesn't send off red flares of run away....just means there is unanswered things to be discovered as others have suggested.
