Today I bought my very first motorbike, and I chose a Monster 696 ABS (2010 model). It handles really well and Im very pleased. But when I got home to the garage and turned off the ignition, I saw 2 small red lights flashing. I looked in the manual and it says its the limiter warning light. So my question is, why is it flashing when the bike has been turned off?

The lights stop flashing when I turn on the ignition.

By limiter do you mean the immobilizer. Its just stating that your bike cant be hot-wired into turning on.

On my bike the light stays on 24 hours after its been turned off. Then it stops flashing.

It's the "hey would be thieves, there's an electronic gizmo on this bike to keep you from hot-wiring it" light.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Yep. Its the immobilizer.. Never figured out why it turned off after a day... But now does that mean the immobilizer is OFF once the lights stop flashing?

Also does anyone know what the rev limiter is on the 696. I've seen the lights come on past 9000 rpm but it doesn't stop me, I've been able to get it past 10K... with no limiter-kick-in effect  ???

WOAH...

the immobilizer light turns off to save battery

the LIMITER is there and you're getting close to damaging your motor at those RPMs.

Hmmm, didn't think in that direction. With a digital tach, I was trying to find where the red line is... What is the safe upper limit for the revs.. The tach on mine goes to 12K
