Just picked up an '01 M900s and it's decided it won't start. Kick stand switch is working (hate that thing, pain in the ass). Bar switch is fine. Battery is new and charged. I can push start it and it runs fine.

Thought I'd ask before we start tearing into it. Thanks in advance.

What happens when you hit the start button?  A bad battery can crank the motor but not have enough juice to fire up

1992 900 SS, currently a pile of parts.  Now running

Once you start it - it'll stay running until you shut it down?

Does anything happen when you hit the starter button?

If so, you've got a few options.

1. Battery is dud.
2. Starter solenoid is giving up
3. Start motor has crapped out
4. Short/bad ground...

Start checking for the bad ground - it's the easiest.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

your switch could also be junk - happened to me

Thanks for all the feedback.

It's a new gel battery that checked out fine.

I pulled apart the switch and all was fine.

In the end, it was the solenoid. Put a new one in last night and it's golden.

You beat me to it.

My M900 did that one evening.  Ran great, parked and let it cool for a few hours, then nothing.  A tap on the solenoid / starter and it cranked.

While you're at it (if you haven't already), get thicker wires for the battery terminals as well as a thicker one for the starter connection.  That helps initial starting so the battery doesn't have to work against the resistance of the OEM small gauge wires.

I'm always looking to dink around with and heavier gauge wires sounds like a good plan.

How do I set this to notify me with replies to threads I've replied to?
