Hey fellas,

Currently have a warranty request in to Ducati for a new tank due to expansion.  I talked to Coleman in Falls Church, who stated they don't do the Caswell coating, but would let me take the tank and get it coated elsewhere.

Any idea who might offer this service in the Northern VA/DC/MD area?  I live in Arlington, VA.  If you have had it done, what was the cost?

Thanks,
Jim

Give DucPond a call. They are much more capable for 'out of the box' projects and custom work. Colemans is a bit more big box store like.

My suggestion would be for you to simply take the tank home and coat the thing yourself. It's really a very simple DIY project if you follow the instructions that come with the kit.

Yup, that's the correct kit. Just be sure to follow the instructions on cleaning the tank (even though its new, you still have to clean it) and how to thin the mix and you'll be fine. One thing though, make sure you cover the ENTIRE tank with blu painters tape. No matter how careful you are with the coating you're bound to spill a little here and there. As for the sealing up theopenings, 3 layers of painters tape held up just fine and kept the goo inside the tank.

Above all, take your time getting things set up and you'll be fine. There's no need to rush.

I'm also looking to do this as my current tank is expanded and pushing against my ignition. Mike, did you leave it to dry at room temperature or in an oven? As it's winter I'm thinking I might have to cook in in my fireplace if I do try it myself.

Jim, any luck finding a nearby shop to do it?

Not strictly local, but I can definitely recommend shipping it to European Motorsports in Pittsburgh.  See my other post http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=25074.msg984794#msg984794.

Jim, it was mid summer when I coated my tank so I just sat it out on the deck to cure.  Once the coating starts to set and is more or less a solid, just set in your basement for the final cure. There's no need to bake the tank.

cheers
