Should my rear sprocket move......?

Hi all,

While I was washing my bike last weekend, I noticed that the rear sprocket moved back and forth a few millimetres when pushed and pulled.
I can't say that I've ever noticed this before and wondered if this is 'normal'? (2008 MS4RS)

I have had a look at the nuts holding it all together and they could not be tighter.
Is this how its designed (a 'floating' sprocket), or should it all be solid with no movement at all?

The video is not great, but at least it illustrates the movement I'm trying to describe.

That's normal, yes.

No, it's not dangerous ;)
(although it won't hurt to check the inside of your sprocket to see if the rubber cush drives are failing, which in rare cases can cause them to move and contact the swing arm)

It's caused by wear though, so if you feel that you and your bike deserve better.... start loking into fresh bling parts.

Hey bro if you're having play in the rear sprocket that's bad. You're cush lugs need to be replaced. The same thing happened to my monster 1100 after 500 miles. Instead of waiting for ducati to fix it I just purchased the parts from I believe motowheels. You can still ride it probably but I wouldn't ride it hard. If 1 of those lugs goes it would suck.

It's been normal on my S2R1000 for the past 8,000 miles.  I asked the same question when I first got the bike:
