"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I have too many seats :) And as I discovered this weekend, while distributing all the registrations across the stable, two of the bikes have no place under the seat for paperwork. - Gene

I do was well - but it is interesting to note that it's not required you have it. I just assumed you carry that info in your car just-in-case regardless of legal mandate. But there I go being sensible again.

Actually in this day of smart phones and the computer capability in the LEO's patrol car, why do we need anything except identification, which could be a drivers license but realistically does not have to be, it's all in a database that is accessible. Guess that assumes a connection is possible, hmm on the roads I travel that could indeed be a challenge. Anyway I look forward to the day when our biometrics and our secret is all we need, we are getting closer. - Gene

That makes me think.  I wonder if I took a picture of my card with my iphone would that count as having the card?  It has all the information.

Exactly and then something like I did it in case I lost my wallet or walked out of the house without it when talking to the nice officer. Course that is putting faith in the iPhone or similar device not failing. The rub is you know who you are, the officer doesn't, they need that picture of you that is associated with your license to compare gainst the person in front of them. - Gene

Don't see why not. Just says proof of insurance. No mandate that it be paper.

Sat equipped cars, if there are such would just need LOS to an orbiting satellite, not even cell coverage. The capability is available currently. Dunno if it's been implemented. Probably a low priority things for the State troopers budget lists

Costly, not as reliable, okay for short bursts such as SPOT. That is why there is a big push to get broadband into underserved areas, ensure reliable internet access, of course it also provides the cable companies with revenue. - Gen
