Painting Engine, What paint to use

I will soon be installing a lightweight flywheel and new clutch plates on my 900 monster. While i have it apart i would like to paint  the engine sides. What are some good tips and some good paint to use? Should i primer, paint, and clearcoat or just use one type of paint? I need something that will hold up well.
