Wiring rubber boot source?

Some of the boots are in dire need of replacement. I've got a bag of the connectors, but cannot find the weather boots any place. Well I found some gummy looking ones from some seller in the UK, but they aren't the accordion type used on the harness.

Anyone got a source?

The connector series you're looking for is AMP superseal.

I disliked the rubber boots that were available, as they tended toward the bulky side.  I ended up buying hot-melt glue filled heatshrink tube and making boots with that.



There was no boot available for the large connector on the gauges, so I used a specially shaped (and exhorbitantly priced) heatshrink piece.

Thanks. I know they're the AMP superseals, got a bag of the two, three and four pin connectors - it's just the dang boots that are tough to find.

Holt melt glue shrink tube you say? I'll have to look into that. It's my headlight connections that are the most shabby. The accordion style OEM boots have come all to bits.

You can see the boot for my headlight connector in the bottom left of the second picture.  From memory I used 3:1 shrink ratio heatshrink, as the garden variety 2:1 stuff wasn't able to cope with the big difference between the connector size and the wires.

FWIW, the superseal connectors don't need the boots to keep them waterproof.  They have little bungs that go in each of the wire holes that do that.

Good info. Shrinking around the 4 pin to 4 wires is a big ratio.

Now, do you know if there's a tool to 'un snap' the snap in interior bit of the plug housing that serves to keep the pins in place?

Sweet merciful crap! $33 for a bit or bent wire with a bit of a notch?! There must be a cheeper source, and one that is in the same hemisphere as me. Though shipping a bit of wire from AU to US shouldn't cost that much.

There was discussions about these connectors going back to TOB and more recently and several folk have gone and bought the connectors and the fiddly tangs, and the tools and said they'd post again when they had succeeded - haven't seen any progress reports.

If someone out there could make me up a few with nice new boots and a long pigtail on each end then I could toss out my shabby connectors and join up the wires in an unobtrusive place. Mine were all split and perishing years ago. I wrapped 'em up with black electricians tape - no photos, not pretty.

We did put together a bulk buy of bits a while (2-3 years) back. But the boots seems to be impossible to find.

- So I think I'll just be following that model and replacing the dead rubber booties with shrink tubes. I figure with some 4:1 I can just slip it over the existing connectors and shrink. No need to disassemble.

Thanks Stew - though I might go down the shrink option. Doesn't require me to disassemble those PITA plugs.
