Hey all,
I've had my bike (2007 M695 Dark) for the last 5 months, and it's my first Duc.
Bought it with 4000 miles, and a tiny oil leak. Haven't had any major issues in the last 2300 miles.
Replaced the Crank Case Oil Breather, the valve cover gasket, cam seals and the timing layshaft seal, and that seems to have gotten rid of the leak.
The Bike runs hot, seems to level off around 240 degrees at speed (at low rpms in December.. 40 degree weather?) My mechanic tells 180 degrees is the Ideal operating temp, and getting a new exhaust/ECU and giving the bike a richer burn would cool it down. I could also Install an oil cooler.
Any thoughts?
I've also recently got an Intermittent high beam. Not sure if it's a filament, connection/switch, or battery issue?
Anyone have any similar experiences/advice?
Nate

Overheated is 3380 T according to your owner's manual:

2400 is OK for an air cooled engine, you are reading oil temperature.  Your mechanic is correct that the bike will run cooler with a DP or reflashed ECU with exhaust and open air box.  The richer mixture will cool things down a bit.

As far as the high beam goes, you can rule out the battery.  The only tricky part of the diagnosis is it is intermittent.  When working all will test good.  If the high beam comes on with the flasher the switch is the likely culprit.  Check all connections and spray a little contact cleaner into the high beam switch, pushing the switch in and out a few times.  The switch can be disassembled and cleaned, but it is full of little stuff that can fall put.  The replacements ain't cheap.

I used to have a 695 and I think they shoul have come with a stock oil cooler.  That bike loves an ECU upgrade, my temps dropped about 50 degrees after reflashing to DP spec.

I too have a 2007 695. My standard running temperature levels off around 265°F. No problems so far from that. About 14,000 miles now.

Thanks for the quick responses,
It's actually intermittent at both the flasher and the switch. I'll probably start at the headlight end and work my way back, hopefully it's just a cold solder or a dirty connection.
I'm fuel injection illiterate so where I know what I want in cans, I'm  not sure what I need to do on the ECU end.
Looking at some mivv suono slip ons, will I need to replace my ECU entirely, or will my stock one work?

I've got an '07 695 with the same problem; on 70-80 degree days I've hit 300 with easy riding. Search for some of my posts and you'll see a number of responses to the issue.  I tried a FatDuc to richen the mix -as the bike runs way lean, it helped a lot with general running, but didn't help the temps much, if at all.  I would try an oil cooler, but here in CO, temps get pretty cool in the evenings and winter, and I think with the cooler, it would run too cool in those situations.  Wait and see how it goes when summer comes around. If it doesn't get too cool in your neck o'the woods, go with a cooler. Otherwise, ECU will be your best bet.

Just exhaust will be fine with your stock computer, but since you are still running closed loop this will do nothing about engine temperature or performance (other than the loss of weight.  Exhaust is mostly personal taste and local noise concerns.  A DP ECU or reflash of yours will allow you to run open loop, lowering engine temperature and increasing performance, plus you can get rid of the immobilizer.  You would probably want to do the reflash due to cost.  Either way, TPS and CO trim will need to be reset.  There is tons of info on this board, do a search.  I would also post on your local board asking where to go if you want to go the reflash route.  Do consider the Fat Duc too.

There is no absolute correct answer, you need to figure out what makes you happy.  Oh, back to oil temperature.  You don't want it to be too low.  If oil temperature is too low contaminants, particularly water will not boil out.  I cover my oil cooler during the winter.
