Monster 620 rear axle long threaded end on left or right side?

Putting the rear tire back on and noticed that the rear axle has two lengths of threads. One end has a long thread the other has a short thread. Does it matter if the long thread goes on the left or right? Kind of weird.

I'd put the long thread on the right, that's where the nut one removes to get the axle out is, traditionally.
