reflash vs. power commander

My pipes are bright blue and I don't know squat about this electronic stuff.

Can my dealer tune my stock ECU to get the mixtures right? (they have a dyno)
What's the difference between a dyno tuned Power Comander and a tuned ECU?
Also I notice Power Commander does not show a unit specifically for my S2r1000.  ???

Ignorance is not always bliss.

my understanding is the stock, non DP ECU has very limited adjustment capacity.  I think there's a trim adjustment for small adjustments.

I've been thinking about this as well.  I've been told my bike runs very lean, which I knew, but now I'm thinking I might get one of those powercards that desmotimes sells.

.................nope
DS motors without an O2 sensor only - that leaves me out

reflashing an ECU to a performance map is always a dodgy thing. not all motors are the same (even if they have the same mods).  getting a PC (or equivalent stand alone tuner) will allow the fueling to be tuned to your bike which will be better in the long run as you can modify the fueling easier and cheaper then you would if you had to rely on re-flashes.

talk to your shop and see who does dyno work in your area and ask them what they need in order to map your bike. money well spent.

Ducati Seattle says they can install & tune a PC. At least now I know what they are.

I'm curious what your results will be with a PC since PC themselves don't list a compatible tuner with the S2R 1000. I've read somewhere that a PC only affects changes above a certain RPM which isn't much of a benefit. I've been looking myself and haven't found a best practice yet. Gotham cycles sells an OEM ECM flashed with their map for Termignoni exhausts but the Duc Shop in ATL sells Microtec ECMs for our bikes just shy of 1k. All I know is I don't want problems.

Without either a DP ECU or a reflashed stock unit, the PC won't help you under 4k rpm as the ECU will still be getting input from the O2 sensor.

I'm headed down this road shortly.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

so if you're using a FatDuc O2 manipulator and a PC you've got all bases covered?

It might, but you're likely to run into weird crossover problems at/around 4k. Additionally, you'll be limited in how much you can tune below 4k by the adjustment range on the fatduc.

In my opinion, your best bet (and the route I intend to go) is to have my ECU reflashed to enrich the fuel mixture across the board, and simultaneously eliminate the O2 sensor. That way there's no weird crossover point where it goes from closed loop to open loop. I'll probably be eliminating the immobilizer at that point, too, so I can swap out gauges.

Lots of people here have gone that route with reasonable success. I've only ever heard of 1 person having issues, and the outfit that reflashed their ECU took care of them.

Also, keep in mind that while you have a very limited adjustment range once the ECU has been flashed, you have quite a bit of flexibility in terms of what the flash actually puts on there. It's not always just a straight swap over to 1 specific map, you've got a choice of like 6 or 7 different maps based on what mods your bike has done to it.

I'd go into Duc Seattle and let them know what your looking to do. I ran into the same questions regarding my Evo and they gave me a few options to look into regarding tuning my bike. Long story short it wasnt/won't be cheap. But they know there stuff!
