low idle

So..I noticed recently that my idle is very low below 1 even at warm up temp. Its so low I notice that when I start out for the first 10 minutes it shuts off. I just had my oil changed two days ago. The needle stays below 1 as I sit at a red light. Which I assume is the result of this last mechanic I took my bike to. However if anyone has any idea what causes this or something needs adjusted let me know.

I was on here crying the blues about my noise in my brakes awhile back while praising this mechanic who I thought was good. You guys told me they needed to be cleaned.  Well..recently  I took my bike to a real bike mechanic because I couldn't take the loud noise anymore.  I found out the last mechanic  put some purple crap on the new brake pads very tacky and sticky which one puts on car brake shoes to stop them from moving. The stuff caused the one  metal pad to actually get wedged against the rotor causing a loud foghorn sound, as well as this stuff was all over the inside of the caliper. And he didn't change my oil after he said he did which was just 4 months ago my oil was blacker than Jed Clampets oil coming out of the ground.  :-\  I'm reporting this guy to the BBB because he just opened up his shop. The guy has the nerve to charge people 95/hour labor and he doesn't care to even clean brake parts and is not honest about what he does. I fear for my valve adjustment.. :'(

I replaced my front rotors with EBC's  because I was due for new ones and the nice guy cleaned and smoothed out my new pads.  Now my front brakes are so smooooth without a sound. I'm yet to do the back one when I get more $$ and have him check my valves..I could just imagine..

anyway thanks guys for being here!  [thumbsup] you rock!

hey, when i bought my 2002 m750 . it was idling under 1 . probably 850 or smth ...
that was causing to choke .. the spark plus were very dirty .
all i had to do is adjust the throttle bodies . its a small screw there that adjusts the rmps. i set it to idle at 1200rpms and since then i had no problems whatsoever.
abt trusting mechanics??? no way . i dont trust anyone. so i figured i had to learn everything and do it on my own . yes it takes a lot of time, but at least in my head i d know that i did everything.
there are a lot of great guys in here who helped me through with the problems or tune ups i had to do .  [thumbsup]

A 04 620ie  I want to learn how to do everything because I'm over spending a lot of money to have this bike worked on. Thing is I have no tools nor a place like a garage, bike lift. If I did life would be much easier. I used to work on honda's  long ago.

I'll look for that throttle body switch..thanks!

Desmotimes makes a decent manual for Ducs.
Search here for how to reset Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on YOUR bike (620) there's a hundred different
bikes and a hundred different ways only pay attention to the 620 - it's easy, but you'll need a good digital volt meter. Get that set correctly, then adjust the air bleed screws on your throttle bodies, then you should not need
to rely on the throttle stop screw.
Throttle stop screw will quickly keep you from stalling but get it fixed right you'll enjoy fiddling with your Duc making it better every weekend.
What's the condition of your belts? Another easy and critical item.
You'll want a good set of metric allen wrenches, 4,5,6,7,10mm. 10,12mm sockets or spanner.

I've found my 620 simple to work on and not to fiddly. Good luck enjoy your bike!

Throttle body balance (or lack, thereof) can cause poor idle and stalling.  It's easy to set for your bike and can be done with a home made manometer.  I second the use of the Desmotimes literature.  It's written so that almost anyone with a pulse and a fundamental grasp of English can understand it.

620 has a non linear tps and 04 should have weber throttle bodies.  see how you go with this - http://www.bikeboy.org/ducati2vthrottleb.html

I should have thought to add a link to your page, Brad....I use it all the doggone time.

Thanks for posting all the information you have over the years, by the way!  (Especially the instructional bits like this one)
