I surf through tech section to learn about 14 tooth upgrade. My research didn't help me. My bike is a 620 year 2k6 believe it or not still only 19k on it, and it's really time to gear & chain change up.

Original gearing is 15/48. If i put 14tooth front do i need to go down rear, something like 46tooth.... Do i eliminate the 14tooth effect if rear ratio go down, maybe 48tooth is to have more clearance with the swing arm.

Surely some of you with the same bike did this upgrade, witch ratio you had chosen? [roll] [roll]

Thanks you all for sharing your experience!

1 down on the front = 3 up on the rear....

To achieve roughly the same effect as 14/48 you'd be running a 15/51 combo as noted. If you went to something like 14/46 you'd be getting close to the stock gearing ratio again.

48 tooth doesn't play into clearance.

It's very common for folks to opt for the -1 in the font or +3 in the rear change. I've got a 900 which is 15/42 - stock is 15/39. When I had a 620, I swapped the 15t for a 14t and was quite happy.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Thanks again for all your help guys!! [beer]

Just want to share my experience on those two things:

first, i did all of these updatse myself; front sprocket 14t, rear sprocket, new did chain. I know that for some of you it is as usual tech thing to do, but i 'm really proud and happy of that and want to tell everybody who've never did it but feel able too, go for it. A lot of experienced people in here are happy to give tips and help. I did some research too on the web, to get other advice and how to, like motion pro web site to use chain tool and rivet master link safely. It saved me a lot of money to take time (half a day), and give me more self confidence with my bike.

second; front sprocket -1 (15 to 14) give smoothest start-up, in certain way is a good thing when is always stop and go in the city. If you like aggressive response from your bike don't do this... But i'm really happy with this. [Dolph]
