Vibration damper pads

Found a few of these little black discs in my driveway and didn't know what they were or where they came from. As I was checking the bike today, I realized they came from in between the cylinder fins and I'm missing quite a few.  Is it OK to ride this way? 

Seriously though, any ideas for cheap replacements and/or how to keep them in place?  I'm not paying $.65 each at the dealer for them, but I figure they're there for a reason and it won't hurt to replace them if I can find a good alternative.

Let them go!  They stop "fin ring."  Lots of people flick them out of the rest of the spots when they discover them laying on the ground.  They don't hurt by not being there.

A noise reduction attempt re engine fin resonance I've heard.
I pulled all mine out as half had fallen out.
Anyway, I liked the idea of clear air flow thru the fins.
And about 100 gms weight loss .
