I have a 2010 696 with approx 3000 miles on it.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, the bike runs rough when the temp shows 3 to 4 bars or higher.  I do a lot of stop and go riding in DC traffic and I notice when the temp starts getting up there, she runs rough and stutterers when starting off from a stop and I have to get the RPMs up higher to get somewhat of a smooth take off.  When the temp is showing around 2 3 bars it runs pretty smooth.

I put termi's on it with race ECU, but it ran rough with the original ECU as well.  I thought about adding a oil cooler but I'm not sure if would make a difference.  Any thoughts or is it just the nature of the Monster?

On a unrelated note, I found a set of used Termi's at a local dealer and got a pretty good deal on them, the dealer said they were titanium but they look like stainless to me.  Anyone know of a way to tell the difference?  The Termi pics on Ducati's website aren't really good enough to see a difference.

Is it the same kind of low end vtwin roughness?  Most ducs in general are just lumpy below 4k rpm.

And bring a magnet to stick onto the slip ons.  If it sticks, it's stainless, if it doesnt, it's ti.

I've got a 696 and I do a lot of stop and go in DC traffic too.  I don't think I've noticed anything in particular aside from the normal way a twin runs on my bike.  Do you let your bike warm up before riding it though?  My bike will die if I don't give it a few minutes to warm up.  Basically, I start the bike with the quick throttle lever all the way on and I let the bike sit there for a couple minutes until I see the rpm hit 3k.  Then I let off the lever and go about my day.  Maybe the rough running is a result of this?

Side by side it's easy to tell by color. The ti will have a slightly dark and browner color.

On the rough running:
Did the 2010 get the coil issues resolved?

What RPMs are you seeing the sputtering from stop?

Thanks for the replies guys.  It runs pretty smooth once it warms up, say 2 to 3 bars on the temp gauge, but once it gets up around 4 bars, just runs rough, sluggish.  I bought it used, not sure if 2010s had the coil issue or not but I'm going to take it into the shop and have it checked out.

And I tried a magnet on the Termi's and it didn't stick, but it didn't stick to my kitchen sink either...  I only paid $600 for the Termi's with ECU and filter so either way I didn't get a bad deal.  Carbon fibers would have looked better on the bike though.

It's sluggish from around 1100 RPMs up to around 4000. Seems ok at higher RPMs.  This is my first twin so it might just be the way it is, but definitely a pronounced difference when the engine gets hot.

Pffft. Well there's your problem. Give it some welly as the Brits would say. At 1100 I'm shocked it doesn't stall.

If your still running the stock gearing you'll want to be around 4k when coming off a dead stop

When it was cooler the engine was probably making a bit more power - now that it's getting warm here the air thins. I know my 900 feels less grunty late in a hit day in comparison to the morning cool

Btw - check the CAM local section. Lots of folks in dc
