Strange 'bumping' while riding

the dealer did that to me, so no, you're not the only one dumb enough to do that.

This is probably a long shot, but did you by chance put the cone shaped spacer in backwards? If you did, it causes similar symptoms, although I only felt them at low speed until I stopped and tried to figure out what the problem was.  Maybe I'm the only one dumb enough to do that, but when it's been a while between wheel removal and installation, it's easy to forget which way they go in.  I did that after I put new tires on.  I ended up having to install my online purchased tires myself, but not because no one would do it, because no one had time for several days and I wanted it done asap. It wasn't too bad, actually.  Anyway, just wanted to throw out a possible cheap/easy fix.

It's worth a look.  If that spacer is in backwards for long you will have major damage.  Cone towards bearing.

Thanks for all the replies.  Yes, there are definitely others. In fact, it was was a thread on this forum I came across a while ago (sofadriver's maybe?) pointing out the correct way to install the spacer. I made sure I had it in right.

I did some short around-town rides with the new rear tire and I'm pretty sure the bumping wasn't present.  At this point, I think it was only after the front tire/wheel was installed. Still have to schedule a shop visit but I'm hoping it's just balance.

I don't know much about the front end. How likely is it to tweak the axle or fork and cause something like this?  I had a hell of a time with my POS front stand and I'm wondering if I could've munged something wrestling with it.

Had a bit of a wait but finally got it into the local dealer. Had the part of the 7500 done that I didn't do and they checked it over. They thought it might be the head bearing/adjustment, which sounded odd to me. That checked out as did everything else, according to them. They rode it after they did the rest of the work and couldn't detect the bumping.

I was hopeful the issue got resolved by whatever they did while they had it, but the issue persists. I'm no fine tuned machine so I'm a bit shocked they couldn't detect anything. And when I went to fill up after riding for a bit, I realized that they didn't reset the maintenance indicator. Makes me wonder what else they forgot and/or how much effort they put into trying to identify the issue.

Oh well, guess I'll have to start the hunt for a different shop...

I'll post details if/when the problem is resolved.

So my replacement tank came in today and I dropped it off for the replacement, another test drive seeking the "bumping" issue, and to reset the maintenance indicator.  Two more techs rode the bike, but didn't detect anything so I'm back to square one. Went out and got on the bike and "MAI nt" message still showed on the gauge. Went back in and grabbed the tech who came out to look at it, said it always does that and it's normal. Being uncertain, I said, "duh, OK".  Just checked the manual, which states to the contrary  . So, back to the shop I go for a third attempt to reset the maintenance indicator.

Not that you shouldn't be pissed that they were supposed to reset it and didn't, but you can do that yourself.

Press and hold the left button.  Turn the bike on.  Keep button pressed while the speedo/tach needles go up/down, and then turn the bike off.  Now let got the button.  Now you should be all set.
