I purchased the both cables recommended by Johnee in his ducatidiag thread. Also tested the cables. I believe I downloaded the drivers for the vag cable with the supplied cd rom. Then downloaded what I think is all the nessesary software and extra drivers for the guzzidiag.

The problem I'm having is that my pc isn't communicating to the bikes computer. I'm prompted to turn the ignition on and when I do so, it immediately says turn off ignition.

The bike is a 1999 900ssie running a iaw15m.ao computer and the laptop is windows vista home edition.

I've change the bike setting to every different iaw15 computer and com port for the cable without change

I've read these threads on setting up without success.

Am I overlooking something not obvious to me?

try hooking up a battery charger that lifts the battery voltage.  not a tender.

I have the headlamp fuse removed and connected the alligator clip to a car battery without change.

I have a feeling it's the vag cable or drivers for it. When I use the guzzidiag adaptor tester program. the window says timeout every time I try to test.

Though i don't think it would matter, try using your bike's battery. It might need the same reference voltage. If it doesn't pass the cable test then it won't work in guzzi diag. Get it talking to the cable first then try guzzi diag. There are some drivers on the guzzi diag page too.

Are you using the same COM port number in Device Manager and in the software?
Also, wasn't there a warning NOT to use the drivers that came with with the cables?
I'll check some info at my office tomorrow.
I use DucatiDiag all the time and don't have any problems.

No help here?

Unless you saw something that I didn't. I do wear glasses though. Blind.

After seeing the that you weren't suppose to use the cables drivers I uninstall everything and reinstall correctly without change.

I believe the problem stems from my cable not having a FTDI chipset. I'm assuming that when johnee started his thread about what's needed to setup guzzidiag, tunerpro, jpdiag, etc. the seller then had the correct cable. After reading some of the reviews other people who bought cables in the past mentioned that they used to have the FTDI chipset but don't now.

I'm not throwing anybody under the bus. It's a $10 cable. I think I'll be okay. Unless you see my bad cable in the for sale section for the price of my mortgage. Pm me if your interested. [laugh]

Yeah i bought mine when JPdiag was still a thing. Other forums might have more recent threads for buying the cable. Ask in the guzzi diag thread if anyone has bought one recently.

The link to the orignal JPdiag driver is still good if you want to try.

get the cable from lonelec.  it works, guaranteed.  i had issues with others before getting one of them.

you need to use your bike's battery, or connect the earth of a jump battery to the bike battery earth.

My cables came in the mail today. After redownloading everything thing from the guzzidiag site. I came up with this.
