How many quarts of oil does the 2011 M796 take? I'm trying to change the oil myself instead of the dealer. Any oil brand suggestions?

Should be noted in the owners manual. Probably some place between 3 and 4 quarts... my 900 is 3.6 or is it 3.8... Well, most of 4.

No quite sure, but put in a little bit less than what it calls for, with your rear wheel on a stand, it should fall in the two lines on the sight glass preferable closer to the bottom line. I found that if it near the top line, once the bike is flat on the ground, it is way above. it could be the residual oil in the cooler, there is always some residual no matter how much you let the bike drain. As far as oil brand...pick your poison...a motorcycle synthetic brand of your choice, I still run the recommended 15W50, it covers the temp range I ride in,  10W40 has one of the widest temp range if your OAT doesn't go into the persistent 30-40 degrees Celsius(86 F to 100 F).
