Hey everyone. Jason from south florida here. Been reading a lot about the frozen shifter problems for this model and that there's a kit for it and everything ...

I got my little parts kit today but Im trying to figure out if I need any ducati special tools to do this job or not. There's several people online saying that its a 45min-1hr job but doesn't say if I need any ducati special tools to complete this or not ...

and also, how the heck do you get the left side cover off? There's no pry tabs on the cover at all ... it looks like its just RVT'd on there. Im assuming there's possibly a special puller tool for this too? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks everyone

A common hub puller will work if you buy the correct bolts.  I use one I bought at Sears about 25 years ago....but they still have 'em.  I think they call it a harmonic balancer puller or something.

Just be sure whatever you press against the crankshaft with fits through the cover without interference.

There's not much holding the cover in place.  Once the bolts are removed (don't forget the recessed one near the clutch slave, which must also be removed along with the clutch rod beneath it) all that's left are two short alignment dowels, the stator magnets, and the resistance of the silicone sealant.  You can make your own cover puller from a few bolts and a small piece of 1/4" thick bar stock if you like.
