Steampunkish Mod Idea

Hello to all, haven't been here in a while... Anyways, I always liked art that incorporated gears and a certain style element but I never knew it had a name and when I saw this video I got an idea for my monster belt covers.  More on that later.  Here is the vid



So what I REALLY want to eventually do this but I don't know if I can pull it off.  Now I know a lot of people take off the belt covers and i think thats cool and all but I want to do something else.  I don't expect that I will be able to do it but I'm in the dreaming phase for this mod.

Removed or opened covers give an 'industrial' look.

Carbon fiber is really easy to work with.

As you can see, I did some work on my covers.
The mesh in the shortened side covers was going to be done on the belt covers as well, but I'm not sure there's space for it in there.

Thats pretty neat, how did you cut it?  Maybe if you can't fit that screen in there you can find some sort of screenlike material that is thin..don't know exactly what though.  Pretty nice collection of mods you got there!

I cut with a 'Dremel' wheel for the straights and a pin/peg thingy around the corners - going through carbon fiber is soft and not that hard to control. The finishing was done with sand paper.

The mesh I used is thicker than most, but even if I used something else it wouldn't be room for it. I think.
I used silicone to fasten it.

The see through plexi can be bolted on the outside, but it's visible and doesn't quite do it for me.

Another option could be to use a mesh, but then space the covers with washers on the inside. Water would get in there though. I've been riding in heavy rain and the belt aera was still dry - if that matters.

the other aspects of Steam punk that you coudl include

Hydralic & Materials.
Steam punk is all about fluid/steam use not electrics.
so, things like clear brake lines (check on safety issues of course)
shock with external reservoir
visible wiring in fact visible wiriing with clear shielding would be awesome

and bronze, aluminum, steel etc. not chromed or polished, but brushed and raw looking.

like strip the frame and clear coat the raw steel frame,
get RoadRacing fenders/seat cover/tanks, etc.


and of course remove ALLLL plastic and paint

  I'm up for clear brake lines down the road!  I'm going to go research that.  I don't know if its worth the risk though to cut open the covers and leave them open like that...I've heard stories!

Here's my idea for belt covers (I got the correct type plexiglass a long time ago but, apparently, I'm never going to get around to doing this so I might as well share)..........

Trace the outer shape of the belt covers onto non-breakable plexiglass, drill the holes and cut it out.
Use stainless threaded rod to convert the screws into studs that will stay on the motor. Use spacers on the studs to set the height of the plexiglass about 3/16" above the belt pulleys. Use acorn nuts to secure the plexiglass.

Pretty neat, huh?
