So I attempted to remove my carbs to do a full fleaning. What a make the beast with two backsin shit of a job! make the beast with two backs! I didn't even get em off. Last to do was the fuel line and I forgot I needed to pinch it off and gas went everywhere. All over my brand new belts. Are my belts cooked now cuz gas eats certain kinds of rubber? I am SO getting pod filters. I couldn't get the airbox off cuz there was this one group of wires that was covered in a fabric-like sleeve that ran along side the spark wires. What is it? Sorry mods, this should have been posted in Tech.

If you got the gas off the belts in a reasonable time, they should be fine. You didn't let them soak for hours did you?

If gas came out of the tank the vacuum peacock isn't working and you should replace it with a manual unit.

I will be replacing the petcock with a manual one placed in the same spot. Just pinch off the line just before the old valve and just after?

just before is all thats needed, and it helps to stick something clean in the hose to completely seal it off til you're ready to connect it to the new petcock. I usually use a large allen wrench or top side of a large drill bit.
then mount the new petcock, connect to downstream hose (the "after" hose), then connect the upstream hose (the one from the filter)
