You know, like the car parts commercials want you to? For the best mpg and smooth running, replace your O2 sensors every ______

With all the new EFI stuff I'm getting involved with, O2 sensors came to mind...

 Huh? Chris

Reflash ecu? Ooooooo, what with? Anything that might help my friend with the 2006 S2R1000 that refuses to run right?

i have 3 tools.  well, 5 if you count the old ultimap stuff for the 1.5m that is now useless as i can't get access codes anymore and the tuneboy.  well, make that 3 tuneboy variants: aprilia sxv/rxv, 1.5m and 5.9m/5am.  so what's that, 7 tools or variants of in total.

1 for 5.9m/5am that is not a branded tool as such.  works with original files.

1 for mitsubishi melco, a clone of a well known tool that i use with exceptionally generous support from someone who does a lot of it and is very good at it.  this tool can also do many, many japanese ecu.  but i stay away from that, i don't have enough hours as it is.

the rexxer which i use for seimens and 1.5m (works with original 1.5m files).  they have a large library, but most of the older files are just dp ones.  works for 5.9m/5am and mits melco too, but i have non credit tools for them so i'm not going to pay them to access ecu i can access for free.  there's no dp files for the seimens as you can't read the original ecu file without destroying the ecu.  it seems rexxer is the current shop front for the alientech / powergate/ protune motorcycle software, although it is a seperate company as i understand it.  you can't get it anywhere else afaik.  and they seem pretty good to deal with ime.

tuneboy only works with tuneboy modified versions of the original file, some of which are encrypted, some are not, but all depend on you sending the original file from the ecu to tuneboy and them then sending the modified version back for you to flash in.  don't hold your breath, or you'll be dead farcking.  ime that almost never happens so it's largely useless unless what you have is in their library already.  pity, as it's a good tool apart from the support.

i also have specific map editing software that allows me to modify maps, etc and also i use winhex a lot to find and change things like immobilisor and lambda on/off, change dash display or file part number, etc.  you can see the maps if you know what you're looking for and can read/visualise in hex as opposed to real depending on the number size format.

i'm slowly modifying lots of the original files as i work my way through various models and problems people experience with them.  tweaking fuel and spark maps to give better fuel economy, that sort of gear.

believe me, you don't have the time.
