Author Topic: good ride today with new rear ride height.  (Read 1535 times)

I got out on the S4 for the first time in 2 weeks today due to all my health and financial,hassles.Went for a 140 mile run.

I was able to test out the raised rear suspension I raised the ride height adjuster 10mm and its taken the handling to a new level,turn in is better and faster and stability is much better ,the bike holds a line much tighter too.

changing ride height on S4 is a pregnant doging job 4 hours work but boy was it worth it.


the Ducatis make life bearable.

Its really amazing how a little change in the rear can have such a huge impact on handling.  Glad to hear your happy.  I am still messing around with the rear ride height on my bike.

howd u do it? i would really like to lower mine some. Im just too short for what its at now. I have to get off the bike to back it up. Loved the height of my 600 DARK...

Footnote:

You just changed all your sag settings. You'll get better response if you adjust your suspension now. You've weighted the front suspension more and less load on the back. Now that you like your turn in you should finish off with dialing in your front and rear.

Just a suggestion..

Man, I feel like my S4 would finally be where it needs to be if I bumped up the rear a bit (in addition to the clip-ons I just mounted). Just how much of a PITA was it, if you don't mind me askiing? I wanna do it, but it sounds like I'll have to take a day off from work.  Undecided

Do you really think adjusting the rear height requires adjustments in the rear shock?  Whats the relationship between rear ride height and the shock?  I assume the lower the ride height the stiffer the shock?  So lowering the height would call for lessening of preload?

If you have an adjustable rear rod or "dog-bone" then you should have no problems doing it.  You need two wrenches at the same time.  One wrench to hold the rod itself in place and the other to loosen the nut at the end that holds it in place.  Do the same thing for the other end then the rod itself is ready for adjustment once the two nuts at the end that hold it in place are loosened.  By turning it in one direction you increase height and by turning it in the other you decrease it.  Just have to be careful to make sure not too many of the threads come out of the rod itself.  And don't tighten the two nuts at the end until you have taken it for a test ride or two in case you need further adjustments.  Hope that helps.

Its a 4 hour job remove exhaust system ,side panels ,rear shock tie rod mechanism sounds simple but the bike has to be supportred under the engine and a lot of fiddling around .

The rear sag is still OK and the front needed more preload and rebound added  ,I have 5w oil in the front end but it needs a valve job as its not compliant enough but the weighting of the bike is now perfect .
