is this Normal ?

Hey everyone!!

i just bought my M696 '09 two weeks ago, and its my first bike and so far i'm amazed by the bike! :D
today i started my bike and i saw the exhaust like this! is this normal ? it was during the warming up with the Chock,
when i turned the choke off, it's gone and runs great! but is there is any problem ?



one more question about the stock exhaust, i'd like you to listen to my stock exhaust while warming up, and tell me what do you think :

Running on fast idle (you do not have a choke) for an extended period will cause the pipe to glow.  No air flow for cooling.  The fix?  Don't do it.  There is no reason to keep the bike on fast idle like that.

I don't know what your question is about your exhaust in the video..

The fast ifle is only used until the bike is warm
Its warm when its idling at 1200rpm
don't fast idle more than 2000rpm

I've never seen my bike do that, but I have seen posts about it before.
The bike should be "warmed" up before you ride (how long depends on your climate)... 
The bike should not be revved at 5000rpm on fast idle for 30 minutes before you ride.

If I look careful, it looks like both headers (front and rear) are glowing pretty good, correct?
your's has a fast idle (idle throttle advance, not like a choke, if I recall correct it's not enriching the mixture just cracking the throttle a bit, but might be wrong).
They are glowing due to high Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) under static load.  This is combustion heat blown out of the tailpipe instead of being turned into mechanical energy, so for example:
- perfect Air to Fuel ratio, but retarded ignition timing, such as at idle throttle.

This is generally harmless, most likely just be from letting it sit for a while at idle throttle with the fast idle on, it's just heating things up past the head and valves so not going to burn anything.  But to be sure though:
- any mods to the bike's engine/fuel/ignition systems?  open airbox? PCIII? etc?
- spark plugs, wires, etc., in good shape? a foul'ed spark plug can further retard ignition timing, causing higher EGT's - this is particularly aimed at if I'm not seeing the pic correctly, and one cylinder's glowing while the other isn't

How high (RPM's) do you set your fast idle during warm-up?  Personally, I only use mine to keep RPM's ~1000 during warmup, just high enough to keep the oil flow up and battery charging.  Older (mid-late 90's, particularly on the 4-valve engines) Duc's had some issues with the valve rocker arms, some think running them higher RPM during the critical oil-less warmup period exacerbates the rocker-arm issues, and I for some reason buy into it (3 valves replaced in the first 2Kmi on my 4-valver, 36Kmi since following this rule and no issues...). Either way, warming it up at the lowest reasonable RPM, especially since this is an air cooled engine, will help keep the critical cylinder head and valve temperatures down.

First time I see a street bike header pipe glow.
And I have ridden is pretty harsh heat and traffic conditions.

I don't follow there either. And if we're supposed to be listening for something, having the bike running in an all concrete enclosed structure like that garage will make it impossible to detect anything but noise.

Really not that uncommon. If he had it out in the daylight, you'd probably not see it. But being indoors, in a lower light condition it's easy to detect.

Like others have said, during warm up, adjust the fast idle lever to keep the rpms to hover between 1200-1500. Once the bike is warm, it should idle at ~1050 with the fast idle fully disengaged.

I've never seen my exhaust header get red hot, that said, I've never idled beyond 1800 rpm either.
