how to get this kind of polish?¿

hi! I bumped into a thread over another forum where this guy polished lots of parts and I was wondering how do you do it??¿

400, 600, 1200 wet sand paper, followed by a buffing wheel on a bench grinder and some chrome polish.  (die grinder with polishing tips for the tough spots)

Not sure if thats what they did, but thats what Ive done in the past.  Its an F ton of work...also you have to wax the surface when your done or it will oxidize quick.  (see below)

What he said.  It's a huuuuuge pain in the ass.  My advice is to use as many power tools as possible.  Your hands will thank you for it.  It also may be a summer kind of job.  You absolutely have to wet sand (unless you want to spend a small fortune in sand paper) and it will make a mess.  I did most of it outside.  Here's my old bike frame.

Unless you absolutely *have* to do it yourself, take it to a polishing shop where they have all the tools and expertise....

this is a 2azfe toyota engine I built. I polished the valve cover by hand starting with 600 grit, next with 800, then on to 1000 grit wet sand. a final 2000 grit wet sand then onto the ye old buffing wheel using white rough. moved onto polishing compound. imho polishing compound kinda dulls the finish but it smoothes and blends the marks left behind from the buffing wheel.
