Highly improbable to think that any authority can mandate every rider must wear an airbag suit.
Other than wearing a helmet have you seen the other incredibly inadequate clothing some people wear while riding. Thongs, shorts, singlets etc.... I'd say the powers that be have more chance of getting us to wear Fluro vests than this but maybe it's just a distraction to them trying to slide that through.
Of course there is no mention cage drivers being more aware, it is again all the fault of the motorcyclist for being a rider.

Agreed, it's easier to impose new regulations on motorcyclists than it is to change the attitudes of cagers, it also makes the polies look like their doing something. Thongs, shorts and t-shirts on a bike are plain stupidity. Personally I have taken to wearing a fluoro vest over my leather jacket in the interests of visibility, especially at night. That could just swing a damages claim in my favour, should such a situation arise. That said, I cannot see why manufacturers insist on making all wet weather gear in black. That's as stupid as thongs and shorts.
