I removed the plastic belt covers off of my 2005 620 dark today, while it was raining and I couldn't ride... While I was doing this, I realized I wanted to take off the emission canister too, I didn't do it b/c I don't have all of the parts needed yet.  I did, however, notice that on my bike the two fatter hoses were NOT connected to anything, in any way, they were just tucked into my bike.  I have no clue how long they have been detached.  I believe one hose is a vacuum and is supposed to not be connected, but the other?  Is it possible I knocked it loose while I was removing the belt covers?  Do I need to reconnect the(se) hose(s) before I ride the bike?  Can someone enlighten me please.  Thanks in advance.

one hose goes from the tank down by the swingarm pivot to vent to atmosphere, the other one runs to your emissions can.  welll, it should run to your can.  then from the can, a line runs to a T-joint and splits to go to each intake by the throttle bodies.

I also highly doubt you knocked it loose while removing the cover... but if it's not connected to the can, then... I don't know  Smiley

Thanks for the replies... I am not going to worry about it, I am just going to remove it as soon as I can.  I have to wait on a headlight still so I can't ride it anyway.  Just caught my attention when I took the cover off.  Thanks for the help.

I would imagine the cannister plumbing is the same as my '99, as all 3 of my bikes (from different manufacturers) are the same.
Your tank has two hoses.  One is a drain for the fuel filler, the other a vent for the tank.  The vent line runs to the canister and a line runs out of the cannister to a Y that splits to each manifold.  The cannister has a fourth line that I assumed was some sort of pressure equalization/vent that ended up tucked under the rear of the vert cyl.
but your bike may not have that.

When removing all this crap, it's important to leave the fuel filler drain and routebthe tank vent somewhere safe.

Those two hoses come off pretty easily from vibration/gravity.  Don't worry about it for the immediate future.  FYI you can get a kit from TPO for $20-$25 bucks with instructions and everything else you need.  My only advice would be to make sure you take your time and really tighten down the hoses when connecting them to your tank.  Also when you screw in the hole(s) to the throttle body make sure you use the proper torque so they don't come loose over time.  Have fun.  chug

Thanks UCLA... I hated to spend $25 for something I could probably get at the hardware store... but I did and hopefully it will make it easier for me and save me time, so that's worth it to me.  I am always busy, so any time I can save to watch ESPN or SPEED makes me happy.
