I found another one of the little rubber/plastic discs from between the cooling fins on the floor the other day. Now there's only a couple left on the SS. Unless you know the exact position they were in, they are impossible to reinstall so they stay.
I'm assuming they were a damping devise (?).
Do you figure I'm feeling or hearing something I wouldn't have when the bike was new?

You might be hearing a slight vibrating pitch coming from the cooling fins. The disk are there to dampin the noise from the cooling fins on the engine head. I loose mine all the time and didn't know what they were coming from for the longest wouldn't worry about it unless it causes a problem they are just there for lowering engine noise.

Don't worry about it.  The fins ring, and make it difficult for air-cooled engines to pass noise legislation limits.  The discs fall out eventually on the bikes that get ridden.  I've only got a few left.

Duc droppings! I just saw another fallout of my bike the other day. I always get a kick out of it for some reason.
