I have an '03 800s ie and have this weird thing going on with my brake lights. I don't know if its normal or something I should really take a look at but here goes...Pre ride check every morning bike on kickstand engine running, rear brake works exactly as expected, brake light comes on when pressed down. Hand brake lever on the other hand does not come on with lever pulled in until I put the kickstand up. Just seems kind of weird to me, hoping they work when I'm on the road...any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

That is odd and not the expected behavior. The foot and hand levers should activate the brake like without regard to the position of the side stand.

There is a switch (obviously) on the side stand - the '03 didn't need any sort of by-pass to have the bike run, while in N, with the stand down correct? Older bikes like my 900 will not run at all with the stand down, without a bit of tinkering.

What happens if you disconnect the side stand switch? What do the lights do then?

I don't have any real deep insights.. just trying to prompt some paths that might eliminate possible trouble spots.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Def. gonna look into it now. Considering if the side stand switch has nothing to do with brake light operation as suggested I'm going to look into the possibility of the switch and/or connection up front may be loose or bad. Maybe even wiring being pulled when on stand and tension released when upright...

Maybe it's just because of a straight or full left turned handle bar issue?

(as in pinched and/or stretched wire)(not side stand related...)
