So my bike's (06 S2R) engine finish has a cracked appearance to it has browned.  Specifically the front/bottom portion of the horizontal cylinder is the worst by far.  Came across some Plasti-kote "Hot Paint" in aluminum color.  I thought it was a bummer that I cant make use of this paint because I was not in the mood to take the whole engine out.  Probably because I've never done that.

However I was able to do a touch up job of the affected fins and surrounding area without taking the whole engine out. First sanded as well as i could.  Then Just made a puddle of the paint from spray can, then dabbed a q-tip in paint and used the q-tip to apply the paint.  It came out really great.  Might do another coat.  Hopefully when the engine heats it up it will still look nice.  Says it resists heat to 1500F.  The color matches really well as long as you don't overdue it.

I too have the same issue on my 07 S2R800. It's currently in the shop getting a new and final tank from Ducati. Mine began chipping where the starter meets the engine. I was wondering which paint to try. Let us know how this works out once the engine goes through a few heat cycles.

Pics?

I like my crappy-looking fins... I don't want my bike thinking I care about it too much.

But I DO want to see how it turned out.

Can someone remind me how to put a pic from my computer into a reply?  The paint seems to be fine but I only took the bike out twice...who knows what will happen after that.  I don't really ride it at all now days; no insurance on it right now.

You have to have a third party photo account like Photobucket or Flikr. Then you copy the image code and paste it here.

The finish on the horizontal cylinder of my '09 M1100s is cracking up too  :(

I decided not to notice it anymore... but its not an entirely effective strategy.

Like to see how your paint looks.....

Okay well, sorry but no before pics.  Anyhow its better than before and yes ignoring it was what I had resorted to doing before....so now even though its not perfect I'm happy.  I recommend just lightly sanding the area you want to paint or touch up I should say.  Hope this link works...
