Hi everyone,

new here, but having a concern with my monster.  bought a battery and it leaked everywhere on the bike.  corrosion all over.  lots of it looks cosmetic, which i am not too worried about, but in some places i am concerned and wanted to get your expert opinion.  these pictures are of the front of the bike.  Any suggestions on what i should do?  can i clean it real well and put some kind of protective coating on it?  thanks in advance.

hope the pictures aren't to big.  i can make them smaller if need be.

First step is neutralize the area with baking soda ASAP!

but what do i do next?

Really depends on how perfect you want the bike, how much work you want to do and how much money you want to spend.  After neutralizingyou can clean up what you can touch up to prevent more corrosion and live with it or disassemble and refinish everything, replace damaged parts like the oil cooler hose or anything between.  Even if you don't even touch up the engine parts and starter they will last, just look ugly.

Not too worried about how it looks, just want to not have to worry about it. I can work on making it pretty later. Should I put something on the parts where there was rust to protect?

a second hand oil cooler hose and a bolt for the belly pan and its 90% fixed and doesn't look obviously fixed.
the rest will clean off with a wire bruch but be gentle.

Jasco prep and prime will convert the remaining rust to iron phosphate which will prevent further damage, then you can brush on some rust oleum primer.
