I have a 2000 900ie. When I go to pass someone, and peg or almost peg the throttle, the bike bucks/misses pretty bad. This is an intermittent problem, it doesn't happen all the time. It seems to be worse when its warm or hot. Rolling on the throttle doesn't seem to cause it. I changed the plugs. Bike has 8000 miles on it. Thoughts?

Perhaps bad TPS or bad coil/bad electrical connector at coil/the like.

All those crossed my mind. Is there any way to test the coil? I also noticed a diagnostic port under the seat. How well do those work if I were to take it to a shop? If their just going to swap parts, I can do that, but if they are able to pinpoint the problem, perhaps it will be cheaper.

The shop will (assuming they have proper diagnostic equipment) be able to access trouble codes and live data that should help them to come to a speedier, more accurate diagnosis.  Technician skill still counts though since critical thinking and pin point testing is still a requirement for proper repair.  Yes, this can save both money and aggravation.

You might post on your local board for a shop recommendation.

There is only one. Just like to figure it out myself. The manual I have has nothing on the fuel injection system. Does anyone have the tps specs? What two wires I measure resistance across. Thanks.
