This has to do with the thread I titled Really Tired Forks but I put it here because I have a fork pulled apart and need help.

So tapered springs mean springs that are more tightly coiled toward one end than the other correct?

Well no joke, I did the first fork, noting the direction of the taper, and put it back together. Just pulled the second fork apart and the spring was installed opposite of the first fork. Does the tighter end go toward the bottom or top?

tighter end at the top reduces the unsprung weight.  that's the only reason I know of.

..... but no-one would notice the difference. Just leave them whichever way the one or the other happens to be.

Monster 900-2002 (sold, alive and well in the UK), 749R / 1100 HYM combo for track days, wifes / my Monster Dark 800-2003 (not entirely "Dark" anymore and a personal favourite) , 50% of 900SSie -2000 track bike for rainy days-now with tuned ST2 motor and Microtec ECU. best thing to do is cut the tight section off and leave it out.  then the rate is about right.
