Single sided swingarm conversion: 2001 M750

   From what I've gleaned it doesn't sound terribly difficult...I'd need the swingarm and the suspension from an S*R...my current exhaust bolts to the engine case so it should work. Not a lot of info out there, has anyone here done the swap?

I don't think it will work with your motor. The cases are different.

Also your frame is the early style and the suspension rocker and linkage is placed differently.

do you have the hoop suspension? if so, it's not impossible but difficult.
if you don't should be a close to straight shot.

edit: just did a search. yep you have the hoop. lots more work/welding maybe.

also, do you have the speedo sensor in the rear or the cable driven in the front?

SBK &MTS/HYM swingarms are narrow and will not directly swap onto the wider cases.  S*R arms will swap onto the motor, BUT:

You *will* have to do a lot of frame cutting & modding to get the rear suspension geometry right and that's not something you'll want to get wrong.

An easier route?  Yes there is.  Buy an '02-08 2V frame, swap your motor into that and then bolt the swingarm on.

(also, the exhaust is different.  Look to an S2R800 exhaust for the swap as the 750 & 800 motor have the exhaust ports in the same place)

How about one of the various Superbike SS swingarms? Any different/easier? and yes I have a cable driven speedo.

Also, my engine is a 96 900ss if that makes any difference...

All superbike swingarms will be more difficult to install.  Same with the hypermotard.  Same with the multistrada.  The easiest single sided arm to install onto a monster frame is the S*R arm and the easiest frame to install it on is the 2002 to the 2008 2V monster frame (4V would also be ok, but then you'll have to deal w/cross members that aren't set-up for a 2V motor).

Well that about settles it then. I'll just buy an S*R or buy it piece meal and gradually assemble it. Kind of like layaway haha.

Just OOC, it almost sounds like the swingarm is practically bolt-on with 2002+ frames?

And what do you think of that idea...slowly acquiring the frame-engine-etc and building one...I wonder if that would end up being more expensive

I'm working on a S2R swingarm to a 98 ST2 and yes, it's not cheap.

Piece meal it. It's gonna be expensive in the end but if you got a rider who cares?
Take 3 years, assemble a budget for each year and collect parts. Check the WERA classifieds, cycle selvages, etc..

For certain over valued bikes I've always wanted, like a GT1000 it would be cheaper that way.
