Soooo...I put new pads on a couple days prior to finding this ( i only say that because the fender was fine when i did them) came out and found this.

Anyone ever seen this? No other impact marks on the bike at all.

Anyone know how this could happen without the bike being hit? Thats what I find strange.

the plastic fender on my S2R broke in a similar fashion.  Dirt, bumpy roads, installation sans torque wrench, evil colorado mud... I'm sure these factors all played a part.

Over tightening was my first thought, but I never touched the fasteners for it. In any case I bought a cf one from monsterparts. Fit is decent although the plastic washers for the fasteners feel a bit too big for the holes in the fenders

Mine cracked there from a deer strike, which probably doesn't explain your situation.  I fixed mine with some ABS weld.  Then I reinforced it by running a carbon fiber spar from the bottom of the fender to the top.  Stronger than new now.

My original one cracked on my 1100 not too long after I bought it. It didn't break through, just cracked.

It wasn't long after I noticed it some guy backed into my bike and smashed the whole thing. I replaced it with a DP carbon fiber one using his money. No problem with that one!
