Oil leaking all over(a bit)

Two of my valve covers are leaking. Does CACW sell the steel gaskets? Didn't see them in a search. Other US sources or DMF sponsors?

Vertical head union at the cases seems to be leaking. No drips or liquidous pooling but oily sludge buildup, sloowly making its way over to the left side case edge.

I understand that the ol monsters didnt use head gaskets. So do I just go in there and clean the edges really good and thats it?
Use other sealant like Yamabond or Permatex?

I'm sure someone will also chime in here...

The valve cover or cap  should have an o-ring which seals everything up.. but make sure the bolts are properly torqued.

The base of the vertical head (where it mates to the case) seems to be prone to leaking... my S2R1000 leaked until I had the exhaust valve guide replaced on the vertical head.. My mechanic fixed the common leak when he did the job.. IDK if it was a bolt torque, base gasket, or surface cleanliness issue from the factory... But it no longer leaks.

The 750 has a steel gasket that is typically reusable. Sometimes a bit of dirt will cause a leak, or they may just be timed out.

Base gaskets can leak and cause the grime, or it could be the breather leaking and causing the same effect.

I cleaned all the valve gaskets though on two of them the black coating has come off in spots. Thought it might be time.
As far as the head gaskets go, I will first clean out the breather valve and see how it goes.

If you have the breather that has a metal ring that joins the upper and lower sections they leak from the joints.

Silicone sealer can be your friend. ;)

I always replace the rocker cover gaskets.  they're pretty cheap, just buy them from a dealer.

some people like to cover them in goop and reuse, which only bothers me when they bring the bike to me and I have to spend an amount of labour time equal to 3 or 4 sets of gaskets scraping all the goop off and trying to stop it getting into the motor, etc.

I've just had to do a 996 that some make the beast with two backsing muppet gooped all the gaskets back on to, and used it on the cam carriers to the point of having to beat one cam carrier out as it had goop all around it nearly into the oil feed.  that make me really, really mad.

although not as bad as the total make the beast with two backsy mcknuckle who had been at an sp3 before me years ago, who appeared to have used Loctite as a sealant for the cam carriers.  I smashed one trying to get it out.

The union I was referring to about using sealant was the head. Would never use goop on valve covers.

Found more oil. Small hanging drip from rear header union at the head. Worn rings?

If by header you mean exhaust header flange, any oil there would burn before it dripped out.

I'd sooner think the valve cover gasket directly above.

Yeah, after I posted I thought that if there was a drip coming from the exhaust outlet it would have to be quite a bit of oil passing by.
New gaskets next week.
