Stator

Does anyone know an easier way to install a stator. I have the alt. cover off and I remember it was difficult to remove the old one. I'm trying to install my new one from electrosports but holy sh*t its difficult. I tried putting some WD-40 but it still won't go in. Also a pic would be helpful to see how far i should set it in. TIA.

First off, which motor and what year, and what part# stator?

Well, I'll be happy to revive this unfinished thread.

My Alt. cover is off and so are the 2 screws holding the winding. It isn't "falling out" like I hoped it would...is there a way to drift it out? I don't want to just hit it with WD40 and start prying at it...

1996 900ss engine with 2 bolts holding the winding.

from my manual:

0 To remove the generator stator
from its seat inside the left side
cover, unscrew the three screws (2).
To facilitate this operation, slightly
heat the outer surface of the left
side cover with a jet of hot air.
0 Unscrew the two retaining screws
(3) of the stator cable plate.
0 Remove the plate and the stator
from the cover.

My guess is a hair dryer will do.

heat is your friend.  getting medieval on its arse is not.

Turn the cover upside down, and drop it onto a 2x4 (or two of them) and a couple rags.  Repeat until it's free.

Heat + Electronics = not good.

That's an excellent idea. Might try a rubber mallet instead of dropping it though.

The idea is to gently heat the case just enough for the stator to come out which should be less than it might be when running.

Did exactly what Stew suggested 'cept used a few taps with a rubber mallet. Dropped right out. I don't doubt a hair dryer to the case would've been fine though. Thanks dudes.
